As Director of an art gallery I am privileged to select works that appeal to me. The ability to discuss “why” haunts my mind! Challenged by limitations of art history and formal education in the field I have looked upon others to enlighten me, hmmm…
Exercising the privilege!
As with most spaces in our minds self discovery requires research into those areas to effectively communicate our attraction. The images, narratives, and comparisons provided are the result of my research to connect with the patron and artist alike.
Art is like looking at the stars.. changing, depending on where you are at..
Willem de Kooning, a Dutch American abstract expressionist artist who was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
This piece reflects a style I see in works by Frank Moro.
I have found the styles of Bacon, Beckmann, Kirchner, and Grosz represented in works by Sarah Refvem. In her “Homage to Francis Bacon“
, “The Salon“ and “My Space” the comissioned pieces thru the gallery.
Discovering connections with some of these famous artists has brought to the front “what I see” from the corridors in my mind. If you are not familiar with some of the leading names in modern art take a moment and Google these famous artists: Cézanne, Picasso, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, Freud, Warhol, Miró, Dalí, Giacometti, Modigliani, Kirchner, Munch, Nolde, Kokoschka, Balthus, De Chirico, Bacon, Grosz, Hockney, Malevich, Rousseau and others..
My primary aim is to study and reveal the transformations that took place in the genre of portraiture over the course of the last century and to offer an examination of the new aesthetic ideas to be found within the modern portrait through the works of our contributing artists.
You will find that most of the images are linked to sites providing additional information about the artist and their works. Please send your thoughts, links, and images of your favorite local talent! Enjoy..

Still looking for my favorite to come thru the door..
……….
and then through my door came Jackson Pollock
and Mark Rothko thru the works of David Clarence Paul Placencia whose ability to communicate his passion to the mass still moves me to tears.
I envy the Lee Krasner incarnate who finds David for all the magic he has to share with her.
February is around the corner .. I am so excited!
Do you know who Chuck Close is,
he is pretty famous and still alive to boot! Congratulations.. But guess what he is in the gallery… I wish! I have something better in works by Adam Lesh that I get to gaze at each day..
